Flight to Hobart

Up at 6am to travel to Brisbane Airport, Sunday morning cruise up the M1 with no problems, long queue through baggage and security and were met by Chris, Emily and the boys, a very pleasant surprise.  Had breakfast and boarded with a easy 2.5hr flight to Hobart.  Picked up our Kia Carnival, plenty of room!!  Beautiful weather, a balmy 15 degrees, sunny and no wind.  Booked into the motel then did shopping for food, wine and beer.  Back to the hotel had a couple of drinks to plan our day tomorrow, then decided to walk down to the harbour to find somewhere to have tea.  We were in for a big surprise.  The whole harbour/Salamanca area was lit up like a Christmas tree.

We had a vague idea about the Dark Mofo Festival at about this time of year.  There were thousands of people in the area, and a large enclosed area we were encouraged to have a look at by one of the locals.  The festival celebrates the winter solstice and there were hundreds of food and drink stalls, lots of live music and more weirdly dressed people than you've ever seen hanging around one of the hundreds of fire pits.

The festival culminates on the 22nd June (the winter solstice) with a nude swim at Long Beach, in Sandy Bay in Hobart.  Sadly we'll be in Launceston on that date so looks like we get to keep our gear on during this trip.

All in all a very pleasant first day in Hobart, looking forward to a busy day tomorrow.
